I’m Allison Courtney, and I love writing about everyday people—especially women who face setbacks, pick themselves up, and somehow manage to land on their feet. While my stories are fiction, the women (and men) who inspire my characters are very real. Perhaps that’s why readers often say my characters feel like people they already know.

Over the years, I’ve written a handful of humorous essays and even a couple of plays, but Valerie’s Midlife Reimagined is my first novel.

Valerie’s Midlife Reimagined

The inspiration behind this book comes from life itself—my own, and also the lives of people I’ve known who suddenly found themselves out of work, facing a job market obsessed with youth and technology. In a world where deep industry knowledge and hard-won experience often take a back seat, my heroine Valerie must learn to adapt. Like so many of us thrust onto this uncertain path, Valerie stumbles, adjusts, and keeps moving forward. Along the way, she meets unforgettable people and encounters experiences that enrich her journey and help her move closer to her goal. Her story is rocky, a little crazy, and yes—deliciously romantic. My hope is that you’ll join Valerie on her adventure. Readers often tell me they laugh out loud in one chapter and find themselves tearing up in the next. To me, that’s life in a nutshell—messy, funny, heartbreaking, and beautiful, all rolled together.
